Whenever someone comes up with a list of favourite AOR bands/albums I never fail to notice that this awesome pure AOR band ain't mentioned , unbelievable would be the appropriate word to describe my thoughts on the matter , in my opinion this act is one of the best , if not the best British AOR band EVER! , so underrated it's not funny , if you dig the early FM style then you're gonna fall hopelessly hell over heels in love with this band , these lads beat FM at their own game at times , as good if not better than FM in the good ole days , and I love the early FM style as much as the next guy I'm telling ya' , but this stuff is so good that deserves your attention for sure , if you're into AOR at all then you just don't know what you're missing , just listen to Gems such as "Guilty" , "Flesh & Blood" , "Frozen Rain" , "Heaven Tonight"...In fact I could just name 'em all , fantastic AOR is the dish of the day , you hear me? , this is pure AOR baby , just the way you like it so get down on your knees as Paul Stanley of Kiss fame would say and...taste it! , this band had a lot of potential but unfortunately never broke onto the big scene , I'm a sucker for this kind of AOR I'm telling ya' , undoubtedly the best and most underrated British AOR act along with FM (the early stuff!) I've ever heard , just my opinion...
I can't believe their album "More Edge" remained unreleased until Per Wimberg decided to give it a go a few years ago so the rest of us could have in our shelves another lost piece of AOR , which leads me to wonder how many Gems remain unreleased , really...so cutting to the chase , my advice to those of you who haven't ever heard of this great AOR band would be , seek out their two albums "Outside Edge" & "More Edge"...the latter defines the word AOR! , and basically pay whatever the hell you're asked to...just one word...Essential! :)
Am I right or wrong?...
;)

Excuse me , the first album is called "Running Hot" not "Outside Edge" , I'm listening to it at the moment and all I've got to say is that this is one of the best British AOR bands I've ever heard and it ain't the beer taking its toll on me :) , Awesome Stuff! , just listen to songs such as " Don't be a Hero " , " You " or " Heartbreaker ", what a hook!...I love this kind of AOR , you can tell!
As good as the early FM stuff , Shy , Atlantic...you get the picture , don't ya'?

Yes indeed, ML. A week or go I mentioned these guys in a post when discussing my thoughts on AOR.
I consider myself a fan of melodic hard rock, not really ever getting into much of the AOR side of the genre, but these guys blow my mind. 'More edge; is brilliant, but 'Running hot' is nothing short of unbelievable.
Turn the kettle on, pull up a seat and foot rest, turn on the jukebox and crank Outside Edge, 'cause mother, this is what AOR should be all about. I can't believe there's that many keyboards and I'm still listening.
If ever there is proof that good songs can rise above any genre, this is it. Hooks like they were designing the CD to take fishing with them for the rest of thier lives. Unbelievable.
I've never seen why people rave about 'Indescreet' (love FM, but mastly just the 'Tough it out' album) which personally, does nothing for me, when there is a band like Outside Edge with an identical approach, just ten times the ear for hooks and brilliant songs, IMO anyway.
Indeed, rock (or dance to those stabbing keyboards) on!!!
Great band, great CDs. As for British bands, I think I'd take Blue Blud over these guys, but then again, you don't want to get me started on comments concerning those riffs . . .
Cheers,
Geoff

Hi guys,
these two OUTSIDE EDGE albums (Running Hot and More Edge) are fantastic of course. I also thought many times that they're definitely underrated!
By the way "Running Hot" was already their 2nd album - the first was released through WEA in France only. I'm not sure but I think it was selftitled. Unfortunately I've never been able to track down a copy of this vinyl only release but I've been told it's not as good as their later stuff. Still if it's only half as good as the other two albums it would surely be a pleasure to give it as spin. Anybody on this board has a CDR copy of this baby?
Cheers
Ralf

I've only got Running Hot which I bought when it came out and its pretty good though I probably wouldnt go quite as far as describing it as a classic.
But I'm glad to report the Farmer Bros from Outside Edge (bassist/singer Tom and drummer David) are still on the scene in a covers band called Cry Wolf who play pubs in West London and around. Indeed I saw them in the Red Lion in Twickenham last night!
Also have you outside edge fans checked an album called Red on Blue released under the Blackfoot Sue name in 1997? Again its the Farmer Bros. Theres a lot of Def leppard and Aerosmith in it and it could be viewed as the missing 3rd Outside Edge album.

Thanks for the info , much appreciated Andy , in fact I was aware of the Farmers bros' work in Blackfoot Sue :) , as I've been trying to find info on these guys lately but now that you've brought that Blackfoot album to our attention I guess we'll just have to seek it out as the Farmers bros don't know how to write an average track , really...
Ralf's dead right as apparently Outside Edge released a self titled album back in 1984 which hasn't been released on cd yet , I'd personally love to hear that one for obvious reasons...

Someone out there should give the Farmers Bros a call and a plan ought to be put into operation to get OUTSIDE EDGE back together with keyboard player Pete Giles! which shouldn't be too hard since they are still on the scene playing in "Cry Wolf"...

Here's a review of Outside Edge's " More Edge"...Apparently someone else out there would also love to hear more music penned by Tom Farmer , Eddie Golga , David Farmer and of course Pete Gilis...OUTSIDE EDGE!

Holy Moses , that's the definition of AOR/Melodic Rock! For me personally the best album I have ever heard , I know it's a dangerous statement , but to be honest , I have never heard such a good record before . Perfect production, perfect songs and if it would be possible I would give the CD 11 from 10 points! About the songs: The Opener, it's a Midtempo song, "Shooting straight from the heart" will let you foresee which magic this album have, the song begins slowly and melancholic and it ends with hooks you can't believe . If you think the Opener of the album will be the best song you are definitely wrong, the record will be better from song to song. Especially the Keyboardparts are amazing, like known from Giuffria in combination with the unmistakeable charisma of the lengendary FM. Hear only songs like "Guilty" or "Frozen Rain". Sell all your privat things including your house and car to buy this amazing masterpiece...

I guess I just wasn't so wrong! :))
